Men of reddit, how much do you buy into "playing the game" when dating?

I'm trying to figure out if guys really do like when a girl is a bit aloof at first. Do you not like when a girl blatantly shows interest in you and initiates conversation often? Does that take away from the thrill of the chase? Does not contacting you for a few days make you want us more? Just curious =)
