Tree-Idiot

Soon-to-be former member of the military here, seeking advice.

Hi there.

A former wingman of mine informed my leadership that I partake of the trees recently, and I came to you folks seeking advice.

First, a disclaimer: I take full responsibility for the hardship I am undoubtedly about to endure in life. It was (obviously) a risky proposition to be smoking marijuana while simultaneously serving in the United States military. I just wanted to serve my country, my state, and I didn't (and don't) subscribe the idea that somehow smoking cannabis makes an individual somehow "bad," or unfit for duty (especially given the relationship between the military and alcohol, cigarettes).

Anyways, I was brought into an interview with a few senior enlisted leaders of my unit, and a senior enlisted Security Forces leader from outside of it. Allegations had been made that I had violated Article 112a of the UCMJ, wrongful use/possession of a controlled substance. I believe here is where I made my first mistake in handling this charge, I denied it and did not consent to an immediate urinalysis.

I was ordered to stay within the confines of my unit, which I did. I waited patiently to await the next step, when one of the senior enlisted leaders returned. He escorted me to go see the Commander.

I entered the Commander's office, saluted and said my reporting statement, and he gave me two choices: I could, of my own accord, submit to a urinalysis to take place immediately following the meeting -- or I could fight the charges. He hinted that if I were guilty, the second choice would result in more serious consequences.

I knew I was guilty, so I elected to perform the urinalysis.

I've been doing some work at another unit since then, and I haven't heard back yet -- though, obviously the cogs of military bureaucracy are turning. This is where you come in, r/trees. I'm sorry I haven't visited you much since I joined reddit, I feared being a member of the military and visiting a marijuana-themed subreddit.

I'm curious, if any ents have experience with this, what comes next? Also, as callous as this may sound, I'm interested in practical advice -- what do I do from here to minimize my punishment? About how long does this sort of thing take to be over? This week hasn't been pleasant, obviously, and realizing that my service is probably about to end, I'm wanting to take the first steps into the rest of my life.

Again, I long ago realized and accepted the risk involved with my choice -- I felt that regardless, I would strive to be a good Airman. Now I just want to see this through maturely, with my chin up, and facing my punishment. What do I do, r/trees?

I hope I haven't put any of you off, and I hope I am welcome in this subreddit once this has all blown over. Over-and-out, ents.
