IAmA ChildLine Counsellor.
Hey, long-time redditor, but was on shift tonight and wondered whether anyone would find this interesting.
ChildLine is a helpline based in the UK which supports children and young people through any problem, no matter how big or small. It was initially started by TV presenter Esther Rantzen in the 1980s as a support line for abused children, but has grown into a huge organisation with bases all around the UK answering calls, e-mails and online chats 24/7.
When my friends find out I'm a ChildLine counsellor, they're always full of questions and wanting to know more. I'll answer as much as I can, Reddit, but I won't give any identifying information, and I will have to maintain confidentiality, so I won't be able to give any information which could identify the young people who get in touch with us.
