Dog almost 1 year old, still having potty issues when schedule changes, is this normal?
Short story: Frenchie going to be 10 months old on the 10th. He pees in his crate if his schedule changes at all whatsoever. Is this normal since he's still puppyish or a sign of a terribly untrained dog? What should I do, or do I move on?
Long story: We had the entire past month without accidents. He was doing great, we could even take him outside and stand on the porch and he'd go down into the grass and do his business, we did't even need to say stand there and point to say "potty." And he does it instantly, without us have to wait and let him find a spot. It was going great. We even visited friends and family and he didn't have a single accident indoors in any of the new environments.
Then Thanksgiving came and we were off for a whole week, so he wasn't in the crate much because we were home. We did crate him during a Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday so everyone could eat in peace, but he went nuts. He was in a back bedroom and could hear us all and just barked the ENTIRE TIME. I think this is when he might have peed but we didn't check and don't know for sure.
For some reason today after work I check the crate pad and it reeks of piss, but everything was dry, so I know it wasn't today, which means if it did probably occur on Saturday, he's been sleeping in the pissy crate since Tuesday. Ugh.
Anyway, this has happened before when we changed his schedule. He also for a day or two after a big event like visiting family, he won't eat. Is this normal? He's still not reliable with the potty training in general. He's going to be a year old in only a few months, he's had classes, we exercise him, and he's still not getting the potty stuff. What gives?
