So f7u12 is upholding it's rules and AdviceAnimals is becoming racist, what happened?

I am really interested in how r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu is becoming this quality sub with great moderation, even going so far as opening the rules to a vote.

At the same time r/AdviceAnimals is starting to fill up with "Third World Successes" and "Low Expectations Black Father".

Which is better in your opinion? Do strict content guidelines hurt the quality of the submissions and stifle creativity? Conversely, is there more "fun" to be had if we let it go all out like AA?
