I'm a 2-D hologram in Space

I always accepted the fact that I am but a small insignificant grain of sand in a massive universe...and now I find out that I am a 2-D grain of sand in a massive universe :( Can anyone simplify what this video from Nova Chapter 6 is saying? I believe that I understand the general concept without understanding the math but any more insight would be appreciated.
