Something that bothered me today

I was talking to a friend, and I told her that my psychologist recommended that I see a psychiatrist to get on antidepressants (I have since made the appointment and am going next week). Anyway, she told me that instead of trying antidepressants, I should just change my attitude, because she doesn't believe in chemical imbalances or things like that.

I have been trying to "change my attitude" for years, and that's clearly not working. I hate having to rationalize my depression, and I hate how no one understands that if I could snap out of it and just start thinking that everything's great, I would. It's just not that easy. I wish she would support my decision to seek further help for my depression instead of attacking me for having the wrong attitude. I know my life could be a lot worse, so I don't know why I have this "attitude." Even if something good happens to me, I know I'll fall back into feelings of sadness and isolation sooner or later. I just care too much, I guess.
