Returning to Warhammer Fantasy after approximately 5 years - can't settle on an army!
Hi everyone.
Like the title says, I've been absent from Warhammer (of all disciplines) for a good few years. My brother has recently got back into it and has started building a pretty awesome Ogre Kingdoms army.
Naturally, I want to get back into the game to whoop his arse...but also because I thoroughly enjoy the hobby (with particular interest in the gaming side of it, without being too serious about it).
So, where am I right now? I'm pretty much starting from scratch. I have no army, no idea of the 8th edition rules and very little knowledge of the current state of the game/armies.
Most of this I can (and have been) researching by myself and with the help of my friendly local games workshop.
However, one crucial thing remains - I can't decide on an army.
I have my heart set on an army that is deeply magically attuned because magic is quite simply; badass. I've been looking into Vampire Counts, High Elves and Wood Elves recently and all utterly awesome.
Any advice the community could give me to help me narrow down my choices? I understand the Wood Elves are getting a little outdated and perhaps are quite a tricky army to perform well with, would this be fair to say? If this is the case, is there any rumours circulating about a possible re-release of wood elves in the near future? Also, how heavily is magic featured in a Wood Elves play style (I'm hoping a lot)
I think I'm kind of in a position where I would jump on wood elves if someone sold the idea of them to me, so... any wood elves fans out there who can twist my arm into becoming a defender of Athel Loren?
Any and all tips about these armies (or any armies that you think I may enjoy) or general tips about getting back into the hobby would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks (Sorry for the fairly long post)
