Marine here looking for any tips on how to deal with my boring short hair. Any suggestions?

I can't let my hair grow any longer than 3 inches on top and faded from a 0 on the side. I've gotten very, very bored with my hair and want to change it up for a new look. Any advice would be appreciated, first time poster here. http://imgur.com/YBazI
