Please give feedback on my college essay! (very short)
I'm a terrible writer and I really need some feedback!
PROMPT: Choose an issue of importance to you—the issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scope—and write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.
Although many countries in Asia and Europe have rapidly developed into affluent countries by the 21st century, Central Africa remains plagued by violence and bloodshed. In 1986, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) was formed to combat the Ugandan government. From its creation, the LRA, headed by Joseph Kony, is responsible for numerous atrocities, including mass rapes and massacres of innocent civilians. Probably the most heinous of all, the LRA is infamous for recruiting hundreds of young children into being soldiers, forcing them to live a life of unspeaking violence and horror.
After watching Invisible Children’s documentary about the destroyed lives of previous child soldiers who defected from the LRA, my interest in the crisis ignited. Invisible Children is a non-profit organization primarily focused on raising awareness of Uganda’s situation, recording untold stories of child soldiers, and to re-educate the victims of violence. Through massive support, Invisible Children was able to convince President Barrack Obama to sign the Citizen’s Arrest Warrant for Joseph Kony. Though Invisible Children managed to achieve several of their goals, the LRA continues to exist and is still at large.
This issue is significant not only for me, but for the entire world. To recognize the necessity for change is essential for change to occur. I believe that it is our responsibility to raise awareness of such issues and to call our government to step into action. It takes a great deal of audacity to sit back and nonchalantly watch millions of people suffer. Ignorance cannot be tolerated when everyday, millions of innocent lives are at risk.
