System Repair Virus

My father asked me to help him with his laptop. When I started it up I encounter the "System Repair" virus, basically hides everything from you and gives a bunch of errors and demands you buy some crap.

Googled how to remove it and I got this Link and several like it all suggesting Malwarebytes - anyone else heard of this and know if its trust worthy?

I installed it anyway cause hey the PC's screwed anyway. I ran it and it restarted after it "removed" it but the problems still there. Any suggestions?
