Easiest options for a finish?

I was lucky enough to get a steal of a deal on an Epiphone Casino. The thing is, it is unfinished.

I am thinking of just staining and clear coating it. I have not had the chance to pick it up yet, so I do not know if the neck is finished. Would it be easy to do a silk finish on it?

Also, it says the neck joint is glued. Will I be able to separate this easily?
