How to proceed with a good friend...
This is a wall o'text, and you really don't have to read it if you don't want to, I just needed to get it out so i can analyze it as a whole. TL;DR at bottom
I'm m/21, she is f/22
Very long backstory. you have been warned
We met in first year university. She is gorgeous, very mature and is 'one of the guys' but still very feminine. We have gotten along well for all our university careers (both in 4th year now). We have been on vacations and generally chilled with mutual friends without an excessive amount of one-on-one time. Last year though, she moved to Europe for 8 months, so we never saw each other for that year, but still talked occasionally. I was in a relationship until last January (it was 4 years), and consequently we only considered each other good friends. We saw each other in September (both single then) and were excited of course but I still never really considered taking a pass at her.
Later in Sept we ended up drinking at her place, and we were sitting next to each other with our legs touching comfortably. I then had to zamboni(slurp) some booze off of her bare leg, and that was quite exciting for me and her as well, because she invited me over at 2am to 'come cuddle'. I showed up and knocked and called but was locked out, so i went home. I mentioned that I was locked out only to her but somehow other friends knew what was up and mocked me about it, which was strange and quite annoying. When we talked next she said she felt bad about that whole thing, and that she was puking the whole night and that's why she didn't answer. That's when I realized that I might have a chance.
For the next month she crawled right into my head and made herself comfortable. My problem is that I was still somewhat devastated and emotionally removed due to my breakup, so I really had no clue how to proceed or what to do, so I did nothing. Later in October, she and her roommates had a party. I thought I could make a move then but decided against it as I didn't know how she felt. She did invite me to sushi the next day with other friends though. I considered this a 'quasi-date' to feel out each others feeling without really giving anything away.
Sushi was fun, we all had a great time and she did seem to be interested in me, more so than a friend. Back at her house 4 of us watched a movie, and she and I cuddled a little bit but it seemed she really didn't want to too much. After the movie it was just myself and her in the hallway and I mentioned that she still owed me a cuddle from when I was locked out. She gently said no, and I awkwardly left. The next morning she texted me and apologized because,'she didn't know what she wanted'. I then told her that we should keep the status quo because I wanted more than friendship but obviously couldn't achieve it. I was certain then that I had no chance, and 'killed' my mental obsession with her. She would still text the odd friday to see what I was doing for the weekend, and we would see each other and it would be fun, but she still had a little leverage on me. I went on some other dates then, just to get over her and meet other girls. Some were successful, other not. This girl did ask me about the dates, but didn't seem to be too too interested.
The actual important stuff
Last friday she texted and asked what I was up too(bball game and then to the campus bar). She said she'd see me at the bar with our friends. I showed up and was pretty drunk and seeing her made me bummed out so I clammed up and wouldn't talk to anyone. I then wandered around the bar and met some randoms and we talked and they said to just tell her what I felt. I said no way, but when i was walking away from them she showed up to ask why I was sad, and I was drunk enough to tell her everything.
Its a little fuzzy, but she said she felt something for me as well and I kissed her. She took it well but had some misgiving, one being that she thought her image to all her guy friends(of which she has many) depended on her appearing single . We then talked about how we still wanted to be friends no matter what and what we felt for each other. After about 1/2 hour we headed home with my roommates. At my place we ended up making out on the couch and dry humping, because she said she wanted to take it slow. We then cuddled in my bed until she decided to leave at 6am.
Now, the next night she went to a christmas party with one of my roomies, and came over for drinks before they left. It wasn't awkward between us but we never had a chance to talk alone. This monday I invited her out to dinner and she accepted, but I haven't talked to her since, and I have no clue what to do or say to her. She has never dated while I have known her, and only hooked up with 4-5 people, mostly one nighters.
What should I do? how do you think I should proceed with this? I am confused and nervous and would like some
TL;DR - Girl I've known for 3 years indicates interest, but gently lets me down twice when I make a move for her. I then proceed to man up and drunkenly tell her and we make out, but she has some misgivings. I don't know how to act at dinner tomorrow, need advice.
