Considering buying a standard 2001 1.8T Jetta with 150k miles, would like some opinions.

first off, i really don't know a whole lot about cars. i've been leasing a Pontiac G6 for the last three years and just turned it in a few days ago. I have a lot of friends who are gung-ho VW/Audi enthusiasts, including a group who own a local mechanic garage that services exclusively on them. they recently bought a blown up Jetta a few months ago and have been replacing engine parts to get it back in running condition, and have offered it to me for $4,000 ($1,000 lower then their original ebay/craigslist post), once it's fixed. the car is at 150,xxx miles, few small rusts spots in the hood and trunk and a slightly below par interior that i would probably replace down the line.

TL;DR: how long will an '01 1.8T Jetta last me with 150k miles? i would at least like to get 5 years out of it with proper maintainence, if possible. i've also been looking at a few automatic Jettas of the same year but i hear they are a nightmare of expenses to repair if they break.
