REALLY need advice on how to handle my mom, I'm starting to get scared she's going to try to have my son taken away. Knowing her, I'm even expecting a kidnapping.

If there is a better subreddit to post this, let me know.

She showed up drunk, with an open can of beer in her car, on my son's birthday in May. This was the straw that broke the camel's back, I haven't let her see him since then.

She has been sending me belligerent, threatening texts for the past few months. They're not too bad, and I usually laugh them off because she's an alcoholic and I just assume she's drunk when she sends them. They have recently been getting much more threatening, though.

I lock them on my phone, in case I ever need them saved, here is a sampling:

  • tells me to get a lawyer because she's going to sue for grandparents' right "which will give me in home visits & a lot more that you will not like at all!"
  • "u need help. maybe [baby] is not safe in ur care 4 the time being. u seem manic & unstable, honey. r u taking ur meds?!?" (because I sent a text that said "hahahahah" after she called me a sin against god. Also, I don't take meds? Don't even know where she got that.)
  • "Watch me. I am getting him out of [husband's] family hatred& alienation cult! with my last dying breath! on my dead mother's grave! u have nooo fucking idea of the sleeping giant u r awakening, my child. u will not prevail, be assured, baby child o' mine!"

At this point, I just stopped replying to her.
In my state, she isn't eligible for grandparents' rights unless I or my husband dies, or we get divorced. Upon learning this, 3 people have told my husband he better beware, because she might try to kill him. My mom's best friend, my grandfather, and my father are the three who have told us this. So not just random people, but people who know her very well (granted, my dad and my mom have been divorced for almost 25 years).

Is there anything I can do??? I've looked up restraining orders, but since there has been no violence, it doesn't look like I will be able to get one. Plus, she hasn't alluded to a kidnapping, it's just something that would not surprise me in the least.

Oh and here, just got another text:
"sober as a judge, much 2 ur chagrin, surely. I see [baby]...on ur terms 3 x week or it is going 2 sooner, rather thn later, b on my! side & the laws. Look up how often i will have him when i win court. Your court. Let me see [baby]! Period."

Please, for the love of god, someone give me some advice. I can't take the anxiety this is causing me anymore.
