Dear Reddit, why do we tap our feet to music we like?

My whole life I have always noticed this phenomenon, and I'm still bewildered by it. Every time a song comes on that we recognize, or take a particular liking to, we instantly start to tap our feet/move toes/nod head to the beat. Sometimes unconsciously as well, I'll be half way through a song before I realize I've been shaking my head for the past three minutes. So my official question is this; why do we do it, and are we hardwired to do so? Is this perhaps a natural thing for Man to do? Could this be why music was created in the first place? Thanks!
