Yeah I'm looking at those also. Since I have the drw I would prefer a 5th, but maybe need to accept 32' as my limit 🙂

Didn't realize you were trying to get below 30' - that's going to be hard to find.  In my experience 32-35' is considered on the short side with a 5th wheel.  Have you considered looking at TT's?

I'll have to check out the sites for those other brands. The shortest 5er on keystones site is still 32'. Not terrible, just curious what exists in the below 30' world. Thanks!

I think that's the point the OP is trying to make. The smaller ones skimp on build quality and materials to get a specific number low enough that it _appears_ to be half-ton towable, and they explicitly do not want that. It doesn't matter that the rig isn't really safe to tow with a half-ton - they just don't want one that the manufacturer has skimped on so much that it _looks like_ it's doable.

Ignore the half ton towable comments - most fifth wheels can't be towed safely with half tons regardless of their claims.   Just avoid models with light or ultralite in the marketing.    


If you've been happy with your alpine, look at other Keystone products like Montana, Avalanche, or Sprinters.  They all have shorter lengths than you've had previously and are of similar quality to your alpine.  Jayco, Grand Design, and VanLeigh also have models that would fit your requirements.

Check out Arctic Fox, Fox Mountain (both by Northwood Mfg) and Outdoors RV's Glacier Peak series.  AFAIK, they all use non-Lippert frame components, and tend to be a bit heavier than comparable models from other manufacturers.  

The Artic Fox 27-5L floorplan has been around for a lot of years, and probably for good reason.  That's the one we want... just saving up $$$ for a nice used one (probably not going to buy new, personally).  It's a bit chunky for the 3/4 ton crew-cab short bed we had, but should be just right for the 1 ton ext. cab long bed SRW we just got.  The Fox Mountain 235 RLS is pretty short/stubby, but in doing so it gives up a lot of the creature-comfort space normally associated with a 5'ver.

As others have said, finding a quality unit under 30' will be a challenge. Most people that are willing to pay for quality are looking at bigger units.

I've got a 2008 Komfort that is 29' long and I love it. Plenty of room for my wife and I on weekend trips, but we can still park it in our driveway and take it to smaller state parks.

I've always heard this, and I just can't agree. Maybe I've been super lucky (knock on wood) but my Alpine is a tank, and is very well constructed. I would never call it junk. I even fulltimed in it for a few years. It's just too damn big now that I'm not fulltiming 😐

After having walked through a dozen or more, every year at shows, they're *all* junk. Doesn't matter how big or small.

What smaller has going for it is everything is shorter - meaning less leverage for motion to twist things. Bigger rigs have far greater overall stresses.

Someone else mentioned that model also, definitely on the top of my list. Looks great.

Take a look at Arctic Fox.  We love our 27-5L.   It's a heavy unit, and very tall, but just under 30' long and very livable for 2.

I currently have a 1-ton diesel drw and a 42ft fifth wheel. Absolutely love the quality of the camper (keystone alpine 3800fk) but it's honestly just too big. I really want to downsize but all the smaller 5ers are marketed as half-ton towable, which to me just means light and cheaply made. That may be an incorrect assumption on my part...

Are there any models I'm missing that are short but heavy?  Or just any recs for a quality sub-30ft 5er?  Thanks!
