Is plagiarism okay?

A student recently was caught plagiarizing. Teacher spoke to the class saying that all those who copy should be put on center stage and humiliated so they can learn from it.

Now this is what I am asking. Is it okay?

I read a few articles ( Forgot but will update with links once I find them again )

Some had good points like "that many academics and scientists are unwilling to share their ideas as they will be stolen by unscrupulous "competitors" which can directly lead to an "unwillingness to share ideas"

Here is some of my thoughts:

Some students copy just for the sake of finishing the assignment Also some teachers don’t put enough time to correct. Its also unavoidable,like how many different ways are there to say one phrase? there is also two sides Intentional and unintentional.

What do you guys think? Is it alright to some extent? or just not acceptable at all?
