What alternatives to these addons can I use to make Firefox faster?

I use FF8 on Windows XP, with 2 GB of memory. I only have four tabs open (Reddit, foodgawker and tumblr) and Firefox just used up to one gig of memory. At startup it uses 300 MB and this only increases the longer I browse. I'm getting really sick this shit. Are there any alternatives to these I can use to make FF use less memory? I've tried MemoryFox with no results. Chrome's shitty AdBlock and frequent crashes turns me away.

Also, does anyone still have list of memory-leeching addons that was published some time ago? Searching does no good.
