14 hours of play, 2 tournaments, $480 lost.
This week I played in two tournaments. I'll give a rundown how I did.
1st: $230+ 50 bounty.
I did pretty dang well in this tourney I thought. I got 28th out of 80. However there were some very memorable hands. Starting stack 15k.
I was up to 20k then I lost about half my stack because of a dumb preflop raise with AK to 7500. This guy had something strong I just know and I whiffed on the flop. So I'm down to 10k. I ain't feeling great and I wake up with QJ. Blinds are still tiny so I call. Flop Q J 2. Bingo. There are 2 cards to a flush on the board. Guy calls my all in. Pretty bold. Turn comes flush. Fuck. River comes J. I'm up to 20k. Wow. I was ahead before hand though, still got lucky. Next I beat a guy with an A4 full house against a flush, got him all in it was a guy I'd played with a few weeks ago. Then came a crazy hand in which I had 99, other guy had 44, and 3rd guy AK flop A 9 4. End result all 3 all in and I am all of a sudden at 100k in chips in 2nd place. Following this I made 2 very bad decisions calling guy all in with Kings when I had KJ and another guy when I had A 7 and he had A J. I've left out 2 other guys I busted their stacks weren't that big. Anyway I'm at about 55k. Blinds still aren't an issue. I have Aces. Guy raises I 3 bet all in call. He has KK. Flops a King. I'm gone just like that. I'd still play it the same way it just fucking sucks. Left with 3 bounties down 130 in 28th place after 6 hours. Although I got lucky with a couple hands I still thought I played well.
2nd tourney: 350 buy in 50k guaranteed 280 players. 8 hours later 45th place zero bucks back (bubble was 25th) Cards aren't nearly as hot. I grinded shit out all day. I folded a lot of crappy cards. I had QQ once (lost to Ks) JJ flop 659 (lost about 30000 to runner runner Ace high flush) AA once (3 bet a guy who raised 7500 to 20000, no call). Two best hands I won were with A 10 which resulted in me rivering a) A 10 top two pair and b) runner runner flush against a pre-flop all in call with queens (guy had like 20000). I won most of my pots with post-flop raises and positional pre-flop raises. I felt like I really read my opponents well. Starting stack was 30k and I was never below 30k for 8 hours. I was hovering around 80k, 90k for a while. I just couldn't catch dick and the blinds got huge very fast. They moved me around about 6 times and I got put in a seat behind 2 of the 3 fucking chip leaders at the highest blind levels. Lucky me. Their stacks were just ridiculous one guy like 250000 other guy 180k. I commanded zero respect with my stack at 80000 at this point. And the antes at this point were 1000 a hand, blinds 4000 8000 then Each round is 16000, crazy. I have a respectable stack but if I fold one round I'm down to 65000. It's just insane. The next level is 5000 10000. I didn't get a hand in these levels or the level before 3000 6000 with 1000 ante (20 minutes, turbo style) above J 9. I'm serious. The level I busted on it was 5 10 k with 1k ante. I had 34k in chips. There was one opportunity for me to go all in with 50k with 2 other players with J9 off. I felt that this was my best opportunity given these blind levels and I still folded. The other guy had aces so it was a great fold. There was another pot where I was BB 2 guys were raising I'm priced in for a 12k raise for a 55k pot and I had 2 8. I just was ice cold with cards. Maybe I should have called with that 2 8. If I had had a K9 Q10 J10 anything I would've pushed it with the stack at a reasonable level positionally. Ice cold. I lost in 45th after 8 hours of play. I'm pretty bummed out given my level of play the last 2 tourneys but also realize that in tourney 1 I lost on a bad beat and tourney 2 I lost in a turbo tournament. I am going to really think hard before I play in a turbo event again. Probably won't for a while. The blind levels go up too fast and it favors players with hot cards I feel at the upper blind levels which is when all the cash is made. One could also argue it favors aggressive players but I feel as though the blind levels were just absurd ridiculous. So that's how my 2 tourneys went, any comments or questions I appreciate.
