Woodworking in a small apartment?

So, the title pretty much summarizes my problem. I'm trying to get into woodworking with hand tools but I have no shop space. Specifically, I'd like to build simple Mission-style furniture.

My only thought currently is to build a small work (limited to about 2' x 2' x 4' plus some for a vice) that can be rolled in and out of a closet. Tools could then be stored underneath. However, would a bench that is taller than it is long be too unstable to use? I've even considered making a bench that I could use while sitting on a small stool so that it would be more stable (and take up less space).

Any ideas are welcome. I'm just brainstorming at this point...
