Learning humor/improv techniques. Any recommendations?

The other day a girl and I were talking about thanksgiving and ended up talking about our families. I realized when we were sharing stories that my sense of humor was very different than hers, and I dont't know how to connect with people who don't think im that funny. I read in another thread that the "yes, and..." way of dealing with shit tests comes from improv theater.

Does anyone have any recommended reading or personal tricks they use to make their own stories more funny, or come off more funny in general?
