Question about bamboo.

I just recently found a decent amount of thin bamboo in my front yard. No idea where it came from. I've seen bamboo pieces before, but I had the bright idea to attempt to make my own. This piece of bamboo is rather thin, not even thick enough to make a bowl out of it. However, it's just the right thickness to make a chillum. My question is, are there any tips that my fellow Ents have to make this piece as nice as possible?
