Regarding the Periodic table of elements, would there be different elements in other galaxies or other planets?

We know of 118 different elements, some man-made and some natural. Are most of these set in stone as far as our galaxy is concerned? If so, why? If not, why? Could there literally be hundreds or thousand other elements in galaxies further away?

Thanks
