Suggestions for a new Bass?

Alright, so I've been playing guitar for a while, and I've been into playing bass for a couple years now. I really enjoy playing rock (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, etc.), Metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Korn, System of a Down), and I'm getting into some other Motown (Jackson 5), Rap (anything old school, Eminem, ICP, Twiztid), just getting into a little jazz, and I really enjoy playing slap.

Any suggestions?
