What kind of Synthaesthasia is this?
I never thought of the way I interpret sounds as Synthaesthasia, but after reading up on it a bit, I think I may actually have a (somewhat) mild "case" of Synthaesthasia.
I see landscapes whenever I hear music. That's the simplest way to put it. Especially instrumental music, or music with a light, airy voice. For instance, whenever I listen to Deep-Trance (certain songs), I tend to picture a city at night, with car light-trails of all different colours, and the moon going across the sky. By car light-trails, I mean the photo effect when the shutter is held open and light-trails are made. It is one of the most amazing feelings I ever experience, and is the biggest reason I enjoy listening to music.
I'm able to see landscapes better with music that has a more minor tone, but major music can provoke the visualizations as well. For instance, when I hear an upbeat Techno song, I usually picture a sports car driving through an urban area, or just a city in the daytime with lots of bright, "happy" colours.
There are hardly ever people in the landscapes I see. There usually isn't any kind of life at all, and it feels like I'm not there in my body. It's more of me being there in spirit. For instance, when a song provokes a wintery-landscape, I feel like I'm floating through the landscape in some ethereal, spirit-state, and the music is just flowing out of everything around me.
I would almost compare this Synthaesthasia with the kind of dreams I have. When I dream, I don't dream in colour, and there's no sound...but I know what the colours and sounds "should" be. It's hard to explain...but while I am dreaming, I'm basically not seeing or hearing anything, but it's still happening, and I know exactly what is happening, even though I don't see or hear it. That's the best way I know how to explain it, and that's how I feel when I see these landscapes.
So, there's my "kind" of Synthaesthasia, if that's what you call it. Anyone out there know more about this topic to decide if that really is what I'm having?
TL;DR-I "see" landscapes when I listen to music, with a different landscape appearing for different kinds of music.
Also an interesting note...as I said, it gets harder to visualize scenery when there are lyrics, but when it's "main-stream" music, like Katy Perry or Lady GaGa, I am completely, 100% unable to "see" anything. This is not meant as a bash at the music industry, because other artists like Ke$ha provoke a scene, but it could be why I don't enjoy listening to a lot of main-stream music; it simply isn't as enjoyable for me.
