Why does fashion matter?

I don't care about buying brand name clothing, I don't care about dressing well even though I'm perfectly capable of it and have done so for many years. Rather than using fashion as a means of meeting people (why judge people based on their clothing?) or eventually sticking my dick in people (mindless fucking is overrated in my opinion), why should one choose to wear certain fashionable clothing as opposed to cheap-ass, comfortable, thrift stuff? Obviously while still obeying basic rules about colour, fit, etc.
