Shrimp in a tank?

I am thinking about starting a new tank in the next year or so. I have been out of the hobby for about five years now. I am currently planning a planted community tank, and am interested in shrimp. What advice does r/aquariums have to the aquarist who has never raised shrimp before? What species are recommended? What special consideration do I need to take into account to keep them happy? What do i need to know?
