Overdrive pedal for bass?

I'm looking to get an overdrive pedal for my bass guitar, but I already have a Boss SD-1 that I use with my electric guitar. Are overdrive pedals that are specifically made for bass really that different than pedals made for guitar? Or should I save my money and just use the same pedal?
