Yards Allowed vs Points Allowed - A Super Study
Stats is stats and in the end they don't mean much. But with as much flack as the Pats D has gotten this year I thought it a good idea to look at the Yards Allowed vs Points Allowed (relative to each opponent's average during that season) in Belichick's 5 Superbowl wins as either Head Coach or D Coordinator.
- 1986 vs Denver
Yards Allowed: 372
Den 1986 avg: 326
Points Allowed: 20
Den 1986 avg: 24
- 1990 vs Buffalo
Yards Allowed: 371
Buff 1990 avg: 330
Points Allowed: 19
Buff 1990 avg: 27
- 2001 vs St. Louis
Yards Allowed: 427
StL 2001 avg: 418
Points Allowed: 17
StL 2001 avg: 31
- 2003 vs Carolina
Yards Allowed: 387
Car 2003 avg: 321
Points Allowed: 29
Car 2003 avg: 20
- 2004 vs Philadelphia
Yards Allowed 369
Phi 2004 avg: 351
Points Allowed 21
Phi 2004 avg: 24
The only time Belichick coached in a Superbowl in which the opponent was held below their season average in total yards was in the 1996 loss to Green Bay.
