How can I tell which patches have downloaded?

OK, this is probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway. I recently had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall all of my games and programs. When I reinstalled Skyrim and Steam, there didn't seem to be any indication that any patches had been applied. When I first installed the game on 11-11-11, it was obvious that a patch was downloaded the first time I loaded the game. But this time, it didn't appear to do so. Is there any way of telling which patches have been applied to my copy? I don't seem to be experiencing most of the patch 1.2 glitches, such as backwards dragons. Also, when the game got installed, it didn't include a special unique desktop icon for the game like it did the first time I installed it.
