Americans of Reddit: Do you consider Reddit.com to be an American website or an international website? (or some other identity entirely)
There are no right answers here people, I'm genuinely interested in the diversity of opinions on this question. Also I'm interested in your opinion if you are not an American.
I am not from the States, but I personally consider Reddit to be an American site, despite the large numbers of international visitors. Mostly because of the way titles, comments etc. are worded, they tend to, by and large, assume an American audience. I suppose the prime example is /r/politics, which is despite the general name is localised to the US (I'm sure this in particular has been debated elsewhere).
I'm also quite unaware of the history of reddit. Did it start out with a solely Ameican audience and grow internationally? Or did it from its inception want to cater to the international scene?
If there are statistics on who reads reddit that would be interesting too.
I'm not here to debate whether there is an American cultural hegemony in general either, I'm sure there are entire subreddits devoted to that.
