Taking Trek 1500 out of storage after a couple years... maintenance tips?

So I haven't ridden my Trek for some time and am wondering what the maintenance process is for longer term issues like cabling. I bought it in 2007 and haven't adjusted cable tensions anywhere but in my breaks. Should I worry about having to tighten up my shifter cables or is that more of a usage maintenance issue as opposed to time?
