Is my tuner crazy?
I've had my 08 STI for a year now, and without a non turbo background there was a lot to learn. I am finally ready to head for stage 2, and have my CBE (dual P&L) already. So I call my local dyno shop thinking that I might get a break on list price for parts, and I ask for a quote.
Everything they quoted me was like 10-20$ more than on the web, and they throw in a cobb ap at $595.
I am learning about tuning and already have a tactrix openport since i've been thinking about using an opensource map. So I ask her if they can work with my tactrix cable and this was her response.
Unfortunately we do not tune with anything except Cobb Tuning. An off the shelf open source map is just not strong enough to hold the power gains. We are a Cobb dealer and sell access ports in house if that was something you would like to do. Let me know!
so of course I'm suspicious since AFAIK its what you do with the map that matters. I just dont have enough experience with tuning to know if she's full of it.
what do you think?
Thanks!
UPDATE Instant knowledge thanks to reddit! Thanks DrOctagon and RossLH, and many thanks for the tips. Was slightly adverse to an e-tune, but i'll do some research on that now too!
The tuner in question is Goodspeed Tuning in AZ.
