Hey 2X, I need fashion advice

My mom bought me this dress recently. I told her I was planning on wearing it with opaque black tights, and she said that that was a bad idea and I should wear sheer off black stockings or something similar. Is she right? Do you guys think that dress would look worse with black tights?
