Question: How can I use Dead Silence more effectively?

So i recently bought some X12 knowing they weren't the most awesome headset but it was good first headset buy. I've always used the perk kin to Dead Silence (I.E. ninja) but now finally have something that is supposed to amplify the viability of the perk. After playing a bunch of TDM, DOM, and FFA I must say, I'm some what disappointed. I mean in FFA it comes in handy but in the others it's worth jack shit. When I tried taking it off other people seemed to hear me without a problem, yet when I try it rarely ever ends with a kill. I know it's not a problem with the head set they work fine. So is there some techniques you guys could share to help me use Dead Silence like turning it up certain things you guys do anything would be great.
