Headphones for someone on a budget

Right now I have some crappy on-ear headphones that I paid $20 for, but I really want to get a pair that will do this music some justice. Any suggestions for someone looking to spend no more than $150? I would prefer over-ear, but on-ear is fine if the quality and price are good.
