My dad washes his hands with tequila (really)

My dad washes his hands and disinfects things with tequila instead of hand sanitizer... it seems really weird to me and misguided but I can't prove it. In my mind the ethenol evaporates and leaves 'junk' for bacteria to eat. Am I wrong?
