In light of the end of No-Shave November, could you help me out with my dry, coarse beard?

I conditioned it and occasionally rinsed with white vinegar (which I read is a good softener), but my beard is still coarse and wirey. Not really pleasant to touch. Anyone else dealt with this and have pointers?
