Dear Reddit, is there a movie which depicts your home area in a bad light but you love it anyway? Why? I'll start.

Living in the "Greater Boston Area" this is pretty easy for me... and makes me even more curious as to what other people from different places would answer.

There are plenty of options, most of them do in fact make my town look shitty. The easiest one for me to pick is "The Departed"; my great-uncle was actually one of the crooked Boston cops around while Whitey ran things. Obviously the story got the Hollywood treatment. The movie makes Boston look pretty damn grimy [and bloody], but it has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. I can forgive it for sullying the image of my city for plenty of reasons... Even if DiCaprio's Boston accent feels a little forced.

Your turn(s).

Rules regarding "home area" (there's a reason I phrased it like that):

  • Can either be your place of birth, or the town you happen to live in at the moment. No reminiscing on a place you once lived for a year, six years ago.
  • You can live within a certain diameter from the actual place. If your movie is about New York City, and you live in Jersey, that's fine by me.
