The Midnight Strikes Back
Part I: http://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/mwi6v/enter_the_midnight_advent_of_the_nightmare/
I suppose by now I was wondering what sort of state I was in. I was clearly dead. I felt more alive than I ever had though. I felt like power was flowing through me, like death itself was at my command. No, no, more than death. I could see reality, and the structure behind it, down to the atomic particles, wherever I chose to look. I held my hand out towards the kitchen counter and merely thought.
A shockwave split the air like an explosion had gone off. There was a second of silence, and the wood and metal came flying apart in an explosive array, splintering and spraying the room with debris and broken plates. My original mortal body lay in the room, still splayed out and bleeding. I remember thinking still that there was more blood in that body than I expected.
After the explosion, someone came running up towards the back door and flung it open. My parents had heard the explosion and came rushing in, and broke into instant sobs when they say their dead son--at least for a moment, until they looked up at me--somehow they could see me. Their expressions turned to ones of horror I thought not possible on the human frame, and I caught a reflection in a piece of broken glass. Standing in front of them was a phantasmagoric nightmare, a humanoid figure devoid of all detail except two phosphorescent green eyes, enveloped in utter darkness, boiling off me like some effervescent miasma of eternal night. In that instant, I swiped the air in front of me, just a few feet in front of them, and struck them both dead by simply stopping their hearts.
I felt a pulse through my dark figure. I didn't have to see it to know what I had just done. It sounded cliche, but my parents didn't get an afterlife. Their spirits were mine now, and increased my own power. My radius of sensing increased--I could sense further around me, from micro-organisms to people in neighbors in close houses--the energy from them was like listening to a thousand CDs at once, but in some sort of chaotic symphony.
There were also things that weren't alive near me now. Dozens of shadowy, indistinct forms, chanting, "The Midnight has come. The Midnight has come." The ghosts of people much older than I were wandering about, as if I were simultaneously in the world of the living and that of the dead.
I knew who I was, and what I was supposed to do, but like all ghosts, I had unfinished business. I jumped through the roof of the house and set it ablaze as I took off, burning it to the ground in just a few moments.
I was followed by a streak of blackness and dozens of ghostly figures, like some sort of ghostly posse. Within moments I had landed, right at the double doors that led into my former high school. I blasted the doors open to the surprise then terror of the students in rooms and the hallways. My mind located one of my former bullies, and I pulled him through two floors to bring him in front of me and watched him scream. I pointed my finger and whispered, "Die."
