Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I love the emotion this evokes. Self reflection is also a good way to hide from the sun lol. Ty for the well written piece!

Firstly, I really enjoyed the subtle last line rhymes in the latter two stanzas, and the overall rhythm and meter of this piece in general. Secondly, I enjoy the concept. On the surface you are talking about daydreaming being an unproductive use of your time, and that is the 'cost' that comes with it.

However, reading into the other stanzas, where the narrator worries about problems that are yet to be theirs, gets happy about things that are yet to happen, and becomes sad about people that they haven't lost; it shows that the greater 'cost' may be not being able to live in the present moment.

The narrator is constantly daydreaming about potentially realistic future scenarios, some are good and some are not-so-good. If all of them or the majority of them were not good, this would likely be something that more-so resembling anxiety. For me personally, being a big daydreamer too, I do find that it makes me lose touch with the present moment, perhaps because I want to. Maybe its more of a symptom of the problem or an escape from the problem rather than the problem itself though. Like maybe the issue is an inability to be comfortable in the present moment.

ANYway this was thought-provoking, thank you for sharing :)

As someone who daydreams too much, this evokes a lot of emotions and really displays the amount of self pity almost. As the narrator talks about getting sad about the people they haven't lost, it makes me wonder if the narrator is fearful of getting close to people or living life in general. I kinda get the vibe this anxiety holds the narrator back from future opportunities. While the poem is not really pointing in any specific direction, I'm not sure if my speculation is correct. The poem just hands the reader the information and says "you do what you want with it". This vagueness really leaves the reader confused as to what the narrator truly meant, but that could be a good thing as it allows the reader to make it their own. However, if you wanted to be really specific and embody the message, I would suggest tinkering with it a bit. But good job! Keep writing!

this is great work. the whole thing is a little bit quiet in a way that makes it more powerful or realistic for those of us who do fixate and follow story lines in our own head only then to be reminded that these mundane realities arent our realities after all. i really enjoyed this piece!
