Gonna be people on the brexit side claiming it's a victory while others say the UK deserves the worst. I'm personally just happy if things can move forwards

At least it should end the 'the UK could still leave with no-deal' arguments. The sooner the UK and EU find their footing on the relationship going forward the faster we reduce some of the instability/volatility, which is good for everyone!

True, hopefully speculation will now end, really tired of it at this point

It's a victory if what you wanted in 2016 was a Hard Brexit and a trade agreement that doesn't even cover financial services.

I'm happy there's going to be normalisation but this is close to bottom of the barrel of potential outcomes we were promised by Leave in terms of our future relationship with the EU.

Oh well, it is what it is.

Certainly not claiming it's a good deal or that I like brexit, I just want things to move forwards is all. Got sick of the back and forth, and hoping things can progress positively in some way. Maybe that makes me an idiot, and i'm usually a pessimist, but with everything going on i'll do my best to hold out hope.

Nope, I'm also sick of it and hope things get better from this point on (though I won't be forgetting the onus on our government to deliver what they promised).

Voting on a 17 page resolution calling Brexit a historic mistake but not bothering to campaign during the referendum, only me to find this comical?

The EU has a strict policy of not interfering with member states political decisions.

The EU is there if you want it, the UK themselves decided they didn’t.

This whole thing would have been avoided if the British public (and other EU member states' public) had been given referenda on the EU. The only thing we voted to join was the EEC back in 1975. Every further integration was done without the consent of the governed (both the British government's and the EU's fault).

IMO it is what will ultimately end the EU: the lack of direct public democratic control.

I think you are applying whatever policy you are talking about incorrectly in light of Junckers comments here on the matter?

I read an article that Cameron told them he'd handle it, and then porked it up.

That’s the point though. They will not interfere, unless you want them to. The UK (Cameron) did not want them to.

That article also said the EU viewed that as a massive mistake.

I took it to mean they wouldn't fall for that again if another country was in that position. But that is only an assumption.

It's crazy though, how bad remain's argumentation was. It's like they never consulted with anybody from the EU to effectively challenge leave, instead they just sort of smugly smirked at them until the referendum.

I was living in Britain at the time, and I couldn't believe how the EU was so quiet, but I didn't know David told them he didnt need/want help. Oh well.

Just in case anyone is looking for more context this:

https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/B-9-2021-0225_EN.html

Should cover it (and I do wish that there were neater ways to follow the proceedings within the EU and associated bits...).

Thank you, it is actually only one mention of it being a "historic mistake" lol, the way it was described in the article sounded like it was giving that statement more importance than that!

It's a bit of a mixed bag of a resolution, but then they usually are (and to be fair to the EU, the standard approach to writing them makes them pretty impenetrable leading to people picking out whatever they think will resonate..).
