I love how ypu say you’re finally happy with your setup. Trust me friend, you are not! I think arranging my gear in different configurations was 3/4 of my synth hobby time. Enjoy making sounds for now though...

I took me years to realize that my main hobby is studio building with a side of music making.

I know exactly what you mean! It's like playing with Lego as a kid; assembling is more fun than playing with it when it's done. Luckily, music itself can be an assembly job as well.

This guy knows. The struggle is really real.every time you buy a new unit, your whole config and cabling has to change, cause the workflow, oh the worlflow is whats matter. And the workflow, always, i repeat always, can be improved.

I know, I know... I've already gone through some gear that I bought and sold again. Right now I'm thinking: "I could sell that DrumBrute for the price I bought it..."

imnickb•

This is why I always buy used stuff. I make sure I can always get out what I put in.

6
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

I'm making proper use of that extra real estate on my Cobalt8X, as you can see.

Also, I've marked my power cables, jack cables, and audio interface with electrical tape to keep track of what goes where.

Edit: the tape colours correspond with the colours in my DAW's mixer, and the colours of my hardware. Somewhat.

My 2c is to get a labelmaker. It’s worth it

6
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

I got that too! You can see a few labels under the left monitor speaker, above my USB hub.

mrlowcut•

I see beyerdynamic, I upvote. I like your studio, too

superformosa•

Fun fact: I bought the DT-990 and a headphone amplifier for studio monitoring work. Then I discovered that even though it's a 250 ohm headphone, it is more than loud enough on my laptop and smartphone. Now I carry the thing around all the time and never use the damn expensive headphone amp anymore ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1
lux901•

Which phone do you have if I may ask? I have the 990s and I cannot use them on my phone (Redmi) and tablet (iPad). But they work fine on the headphone outputs of my keyboards/synths.

1
superformosa•

It's a OnePlus 5. The volume at 100% is (for me) uncomfortably loud. But I might not be a representative headphone user. On my headphone amp the dial is never above 10%

If I didn't know any better, I would've guessed that I actually have a lower impedance model!

1
Shermthedank•

I have dt990's and a OnePlus 5T. I can use them with my phone, but it's not just about volume, they want to be driven properly and you can hear a distinct difference when you do. They are passable on my phone but I can tell it's not reaching their potential

I've got 10 years on the 990's. I can't give them up

1
mrlowcut•

I got the dt 770 since 2015 and the 990 since january. Both are by far the best head phones for me. Maaaaaybe if I win the lotery I'll get the 1990 someday...

1
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

I've gone through many headphones and these are by far my favourites. Also, thanks!

1
Shermthedank•

+1 on that. They are amazing. I'm sure it helps a bit that they feel like wearing fluffy rabbits on your ears. Most comfortable cans I've worn

2

Which model are they?

1
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

DT-770 Pro, 80 ohm.

Fr_ZoidbergPayeTaTek•

what stand is that with the drumbrute and microfreak ? it looks like the kind of thing I'm looking for

6
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

I built that today! It's a DIY stand made of two laptop stands from IKEA, four shelf brackets from IKEA and some M5 nuts, rings and bolts. I think the total came down to about €13.

Here's a video explaining how to make it.

Fr_ZoidbergPayeTaTek•

thanks

1
Arson-Welles•

Is it bouncy at all when you play the drum pads? Most of my raised desktop stands have been too bouncy for my liking to use with a drum machines and it would be cool to find a sturdier option

1
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

Actually, I take that back. I played with it a bit more and it's actually pretty sturdy, because the brackets are mounted close to the front.

3
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

It's a DIY stand that's 99% plastic, so it's pretty bouncy unfortunately. I wanted to have the DrumBrute on the bottom shelf, but it didn't fit. It's playable, though!

2
Finno_•

It looks to me like the stand is custom. Quite clever. The black plastic parts are IKEA tablet/laptop stands (have some myself) and the white risers are shelf supports (I'm guessing two L's screwed together to create a U shape).

I might give this a try myself. Well done!

Thanks! I'll share some on this sub once I'm more confident about my skills.

And it doesn't need to be spectacular to create spectacular music. Go for it!

3
Dngvasht•

If you are like most of us, expect to rearrange and add and sell gear for years to come and never really be satisfied with it.

3
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

Ah yes, I learned about the dangers of Gear Acquisition Syndrome pretty quickly.

1
Dngvasht•

If I had this kind of setup I’d definitely consider a jaspers where you have the large synth so you could have a few tiers for the drum brute microfreak and neutron. Also I’m assuming eventually it will be a pain swapping the keystep and your keyboard back and forth. You could probably add a keyboard tray to this desk if the height would make it work. I’ve found personally I always hated having no desk space and having to move a typing keyboard around. The drumbrute snd microfreak are at an unplayable angle but turning them blocks the speaker. It looks like enough room for your pc keyboard and the keystep if you found a way to get those out of the way. Anyway if you are happy and productive like this, that’s cool. In the end that’s all that matters. I know I have spent probably thousands of hours on my setup over the years. I’ve been in the hobby for a few decades though.

1
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

I think I'm gonna build a tray with some scrap wood, to place behind the large synth. The stand is much wider than the synth, so there is space for me to put the keystep, for instance. A Jasper rack does look really nice, maybe I'll switch to that later on.

Nice how do you like the new KeyStep Pro?

I do! It's really simple to use and the sequencers are great!

simple to use but very powerful

MantisToeBoggsinMD•

We need to chill with this “not spectacular” stuff people (I’m totally guilty too lol). I make decent money, but this shit expensive.

Your setup is stupendous! I’m sure the music you make is even better.

3

Modal Cobalt gang! I have the 37 key version.

3
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

I was close to getting that one as well, but I wanted a big keybed to learn piano on. I don't have much experience with it yet, but man, those algorithms sound fantastic!

1

Makes sense. I need to learn piano too but I have limited space. I've only scratched the surface with this thing so far but I love it!

Jealous!

Love the Cobalt8X! Almost got it recently, but went for a separate keyboard controller instead. Still eventually want to get the Cobalt8M though.

And damn if everything Arturia makes isn’t just gorgeous to look at 🤩

2
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

It is! My interest in synths actually started with the MicroBrute, but I got the MicroFreak in stead. Arturia's hardware is so much value for your money!

2
OneEyedKing808•

Looks great

SecretsofBlackmoor•

I like the set up a lot.

I have a very minimal set up right now too. I'm going DAW-less because I want to have songs I could play live if I wanted to.

I would only provide one line of criticism, which is that all Synth Players should have a keytar in their studio. ;)

Do you post your music somewhere?

2
PyrowmanOPA blue one, with buttons.•

Thank you! I do have a SoundCloud and stuff, but I'm gonna wait until I feel more confident about my skills before I post anything on this sub. I need more practice.

1

There's a great Roland boutique that would suit that set up...
