losing progress due to auto-kick

Bug

This just happened: I was a few hours into a campaign in Stellaris when suddenly I got the 'spotty connection' warning (my connection was fine). The 'trying to get you back into the game' warning pops up and not 5 seconds later I'm disconnected. Ugh.

Then I load the game again, everything would've been fine if not for the fact that my saves were gone. Killed the entire campaign just like that. Annoying. If you're gonna kick me out I feel like the least the system should do would be to wrap up my session properly.

Anyone else having this problem somewhat frequently? Any ways to avoid this?

I had a similar thing happen yesterday, I was playing Valheim, did a couple of hours progress. Suddenly I get a poor connection notice, then it just kicks me off. When I logged back in I had lost all the playtime, it's really frustrating as I'm sure it was actually saving as it was going along.

First time I've had this problem, but it's a pretty annoying one.

I feel where you're coming from, I've lost progress on a few games myself due to sudden disconnects. But wrapping up a session properly is pretty much exactly the opposite of a sudden disconnect, which is what you're getting.

And no, there's no way to avoid it. Because GFN's network analysis tool doesn't actually tell you anything useful, like where in the chain between your device and their server a problem is occurring, there's no way to know if you have to check your stuff, complain to your ISP about a lousy connection, or just sit around and wait.

It's not an online game, and the save files had already been created. They just pop out of existence whenever this happens. It's not the weak connection that I'm asking how to avoid, it's this annoying bug where they delete my save files when it happens

It happens sometimes

Had same issue with Valheim. Now I don’t play in GFN anymore. 5 hours went to waste entirely

Yes, but only with Steam and Epic. GOG does not care, and will save your progress. I've been saying this for a long time, but people still don't believe that progress will be wiped if your connection suddenly drops. It's so aggravating trying to convince people sometimes. And it doesn't matter how many times you save during your session, it will be wiped.

If you immediately get back into your game you can go back into your session. When you get kicked for spotty connection it doesn’t end your session instantly

You are saying kicked you out like it is intentional. Game crashed, it can happen playing locally.

The game didn't crash, I was kicked out because of a weak connection.

It's not connection. I had plenty of such "disconnections" over many months I use geforce now and I can see a pattern here. They almost always happen in very intense game moments. Never during some menu browsing or between missions. Basically I think that VM on nvidia server that run both the game and the stream to your PC overloads and stream part either crashes or becomes unresponsive. There's almost nothing you could do about that. It's not your fault, it's Nvidia's.

I suspected as much, for the same reasons. My connection is pretty stable 99% of the time. I don't take too much issue with having to relaunch, I just wish they'd at least stop deleting my save files
