PSA: Lord on Heroes is almost playable on PC.
So if you're unaware, this game is almost exclusively played on mobile devices. Animations are heavy, memory leaks are everywhere, it used to crash on every emulator there is virtually all the time making it nearly unplayable.
However, bluestacks 5 just got released, and it's meaningfully better. It still crashes after a few hours, but it's... playable! on PC! But you need to set it up right.
Disclaimer: Obviously this still crashes, but I've been able to run 30 auto replays on it and some basic macros, which is much better than what we ever had before.
Setup takes approx 5 minutes.
Step 1: Download BlueStacks 5. If you're feeling kind, use my affiliate link, it will automatically download Lord of Heroes for you without bluestacks ads.
Step 1.1: In the version menu, make sure you pick the 32-bit version ( even if you have a 64-bit system ) - this is important because otherwise, bluestacks will enable VT, which is bad for the game.
Step 2: Open the multi-instance manager
The little blue \"circle\" on the bottom right.
Step 3: Create an instance of a nougat machine in 64 bits. Sounds super techy, but you just pick the right version from the list:
To make your day interesting I made this one a rectangle
Step 4: Start that new bluestacks instance, download lord of heroes but don't open it yet.
Step 5: In bluestacks settings ( the little cog ), under "Engine", make sure your settings are as follows:
- RAM: As high as you can. This makes the game survive longer before crashing.
- CPU: Also should be high but this isn't as meaningful.
- Graphics Engine: Performance
- Graphics Renderer: OpenGL ( works for me, I heard some people prefer DirectX, never tested it )
- If you have a GPU option, tick "Prefer dedicated computer graphics"
- ASTC: Disable ( unless you fresh installed the app and you're a techy and you know what you're doing )
- Frame rate: 60 works for me, if this doesn't work try 30. Be careful with other rates, stuff we tested like 48 bug out the animations and make bluestacks crash more often.
- Make sure high frame rates and VSync are ticked off.
- ABI: Auto
Step 6: If you made any changes in step 5, restart bluestacks
Step 7: Open bluestacks and enjoy!
Please give feedback below, I'd love to know if this actually works for everyone. Be honest, if there's issues it's important for me to know so I can do what I can to make this better.
