[DIAMONDS] A Statistical Experiment
This morning from 5:30 to 6:00 AM EST, I performed an experiment with theohn to see how many diamonds two people could legitimately mine in half an hour. We would then use a variance (+/-) of 20 to account for enchants and chunk variations. We would then multiply the result by two to determine how many diamonds two people could possibly obtain via legitimate means and use this as a potential threshold for gauging when to call x-ray/exploit.
theohn will be posting a very in-depth guide on an expert diamond mining technique shortly. Until then, here is the basics:
THE METHOD
We dug tunnels that were approximately 80 blocks long (5 chunks) every 4 blocks wide. These tunnels were 2 blocks high. This is a variation of a method known as grid mining (because we're mining in a grid; cool huh?).
THE RESULTS
After each digging for 30 minutes with no enchants (I didn't even go through a whole diamond pick) using theohn's methodology, we had a total of 57 diamonds. Taking into account the variance of 20 we are looking at:
- Low: 74 diamonds per hour
- High: 154 diamonds per hour
Halve these figures for individual mining efforts; this was done by two people. If one person is doing 37 diamonds an hour, it may very well be perfectly legitimate. Imagine if said person is committed and plays for five or six hours a day as a lot of us do. :)
Please consider this post the next time you consider calling someone for x-ray or exploits. It is always possible that they may be cheating but so is this!
Thank you.
