Ia there any casual way of cleaning your bearings?

General Discussion

I skate outdoors and everytime there is gunk on my outer bearing part. I really don't want to take them out, clean and lube them every time aafer I go out 🥲. Any tips?

I usually just take a dry rag and clean the outer layer. I always get gunk after outdoor skating. You don’t need to clean bearings unless you hear them squeaking or if you went through sand / wet areas.

I've been told (by my long-time skateboarder partner) that that layer of gunk can act like protective barrier against fine dirt and sand, which is what is bad for the bearings.

A damp paper towel works, too.

I just take a tissue and wipe off the excess gunk on the outside, definitely not the best method but it does get a lot off

I got the Zero Nutz bearing covers and they help keep my bearings cleaner. I skate strictly outdoors and it’s pollen season here in Arkansas. When I didn’t have the bearing covers; I would wipe them down after every session to keep the build up at a minimum.
