Causes?

Hey all, I was just diagnosed on Monday and my OBGYN said... “so, did a bomb just get dropped on your life right before these symptoms started?”... now I’m curious as to what can cause this to come on? How stressful does something have to be to cause this? I have IBS, so he said it could be related to that.
