PSU replacement question

Question

Hi everyone, I had a quick question about replacing a PSU. I recently snagged a 3070, but need to replace my psu in order to use it. I have to unplug my drives, which I have a bunch of games and important files on. If I unplug them, is there some kind of back up I need to do, or will they all be there? I got probably over 1 terabyte of games, and lots of code on em, just wanna make sure that I don't lose anything. Thanks, any help is appreciated!

Just disconnect the drives power cables and leave the data cables alone I suppose. You probably don't have to do backups. The data should still be there afterwards. Hope this helps.

If you do a full shut down and turn off the old psu then you should be fine so long as that it is the part you are changing. Obviously there may be some issues if you change platform, intel to amd for example, but u should be fine.

Your data will be just fine. They are saved on the disk without requiring any power to maintain them.

  1. When you start, unplug the power supply from the electrical outlet on the wall first.
  2. Press the power button on your PC, and any LEDs and stuff should flicker out.
  3. Unplug the power connectors from everything, you don't need to worry about data.
  4. Do be careful that you don't knock lose the data connectors. It won't damage anything, but if it comes lose and you don't notice it, you might not be able to boot properly until you connect it back in.
  5. Enjoy your new RTX!

Just out of curiosity, what is your old PSU and what are you replacing it with?

From which model/brand?

650 watt 80+ gold doesn't mean anything in regards to quality.

EVGA is really good in my opinion.

evga supernova 650 gt

Those are... mostly okay, but its a new model line with an unknown manufacturer or design. As long as your not stressing it too much and got a good deal on its, its probably okay. Just wish there was some decent reviews for it.

Data loss could happen at any time. If it is truly important files, always have a backup.
